Commercial Cookery Course Overview

The commercial cookery course is popular among international students in Australia. This course also works as a pathway for permanent residency with culinary skills for immigrants or international students.

A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery allows students to work as a chef or in other culinary professions in the hospitality industry of Australia. The Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery equips students with further opportunities by enhancing their skills and providing in-depth knowledge.

This course provides students with various essential skills for the hospitality industry. Students learn about a broad range of topics like menu planning, kitchen management, food preparation skills, and food safety.

General Commercial Cookery Cook(351411) and Chef(351311) are currently on the occupation list. This skill assessment for a cook or chef is delivered through the Vocational Education and Training Assessment Service (VETASSESS).

The current education requirement for the commercial cookery skills assessment in Austria is Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery. 

Certificate III in Commercial Cookery Course Requirements

  • The applicant or student must be of or over 18 years of age when applying for a commercial cookery course in Australia.
  • Academic Requirements: Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality, or higher degrees like Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management or Associate Degree of Hospitality Management
  • English Language Proficiency:
    • Your overall IELTS score must be between 5.5 to 6.0.
    • You can even get accepted through PTE if your score band is not lower than 50.
    • An English proficiency test like TOEFL is also acceptable.
  • General requirements:
    • Offer letter
    • A valid passport
    • Demonstrated in English
    • Proofs of required and sufficient funds for completion of the course
    • Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC)

Certificate III & IV in Commercial Cookery Course Outcomes
