A diversional therapist is a person who works as a professional therapist. They usually work with elderly people who are diagnosed with physical disabilities or mental illness and are taking any medical treatment or trying to recover from any injury or surgery. They collaborate with other healthcare professionals to understand about needs of their clients and discuss their interests and help them to find activities that suit them best. They take them for outings and teach them how they can manage their lifestyle choices.
Diversion therapists work in different sectors, including rehabilitation and hospital units, justice centers, community centers, day and respite services, aged care residential facilities, ethnic-specific services, palliative care units and outreach programs, mental health services, specialist organizations, private practice, and consultancy and management.
