A diving instructor is a person who teaches how to dive in open water. They have multiple titles like freed divers, recreational divers, including the subcategory technical divers, and professional divers, which includes military, commercial, public safety and scientific divers. A diving instructor trains and assesses the competence of persons who want to become underwater divers. The recreational diving instructor may use training standards and materials provided by the certifying organisation, or they can also make their own suitable training materials, depending on the training system and authority involved. Most recreational training and certification agencies give proper training materials and require their registered instructors to train and assess using the materials provided.
They teach students how they can dive into the deep sea and also help them get a certificate. Their task includes taking classroom sessions, teaching live open water diving, watching student skills and managing diving tools. They keep an environment where every student feels safe and positive during the learning phase. They teach learners how to use scuba gear and how they control it in a pool or in deep water. A minimum of three years of relevant experience may serve as formal qualifications listed above. This occupation requires a qualification considered as close to the education level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate IV or higher and in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation. Professional certificates such as PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) may act as supporting evidence, they cannot, however, be assessed towards meeting the formal qualification requirements of this occupation as they are not generally comparable to the Australian Qualifications Framework.
