Exercise physiologists work with injured or sick patients to create custom treatment and exercise plans to help them recover and reach their health goals. They also work with athletes to improve their performance and overall well-being. They also cure individuals after chronic illnesses or conditions, such as disabilities.

An exercise physiologist is much more of a gym trainer. They gain their qualification from the university and have good knowledge of the human body, and what exercises will cure them quickly. Exercise physiologists are known of the effects that exercise has on the musculoskeletal system, as well as on the cardiovascular and endocrine systems. They can prescribe a course of exercises for either fitness or restoration. They can also advise on behavioural change programs. Exercise physiologists can treat medical conditions such as obesity, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, depression, asthma and cardiovascular diseases, as well as many other conditions. Developing new and healthy habits for patients to enable them to manage their medical condition in the best way possible is a large part of their job.  They can also work side by side with physiotherapists, occupational therapists and podiatrists.
