Recreation Officers are in charge of schedules, budgets and plans of activities and make sure that all the rules and regulations are adhered to regarding safety and risk management measures. They oversee activity, instruct or give guidance and check the welfare of the participants in programs. The Recreation Officers are also promoting programs by way of community outreach, marketing material and collaborating with local organisations. They gather feedback, review program effectiveness and modify activities to enhance participation and outcomes. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary since they are in constant interaction with the participants, families, stakeholders and the service providers. 

Administrative work involves record keeping, report writing and assisting with funding/ grant applicants are needed. Recreation Officers can also help with designing the policies, performing safety inspections and promoting the inclusion practices. The position will demand creativity, organisational skills and a passion for community welfare. Recreation Officers should be versatile, dynamic and be able to deal with individuals of varied backgrounds. In general, a Recreation officer can be significant in promoting a better life. They promote effective involvement, social interactions, and good physical and mental health in society through process-driven, interactive programs and environments.

  • Assisting in establishing and administering neighbourhood houses, community groups, employment training programs and other services.
