The construction estimator is engaged to prepare and present a calculated cost plan to construction projects up to the settlement of the tender. Their day-to-day work is to calculate the cost of a specific project offered, research prices and receive quotations of suppliers and subcontractors, observe inflation and exchange rates, and check the needs of the clients. They also make preparations for work, control projects so that the cost is not exceeded, draw up detailed and exact price lists of all that is required in the construction project and take into account the risk assessment and health and safety considerations.
The estimators should be knowledgeable of all other technologies, processes, and materials, proficient in project management systems and digital tools. These are necessary skills to carry out right constructions, takeoffs and cost analysis. Construction estimators need to possess strong knowledge of technical concepts in order to interpret construction laws, requirements and blueprints. Estimators are at times subjected to pressure of coming with bids and cost estimates prior to the commencement of a project.
