A Cattery Operator or Boarding Kennel is someone who manages and supervises the operations and facilities that cater to dogs and cats in temporary accommodation and care. The job will be practical and managerial in the sense that every animal will be given proper nutrition, exercise and care in a healthy and clean environment. These operators adhere to the best practices in animal handling, hygiene, and management of behaviour and at the same time observe compliance to health, safety and animal welfare practices. They also check on the health and welfare of the animals, detect any signs of disease or distress, and refer to the veterinarians when they are needed to ensure that the standards of care are high.
Besides taking care of animals on a day to day basis, Boarding Kennel or Cattery Operators also deal with the administration and management of the place.
